About

Childhood Years

I'm a small-town country girl born in Trenton, NJ, and raised in South Jersey. I grew up in a tiny town called Elm, which sits between Atlantic City and Philadelphia.  The town is so small with the slightest blink of an eye, you would miss the entire Elm experience. My two sisters and I lived in a rambler with my mom and grandma. The house was small but filled with so much love, it was a joy to call home.

Our neighbors had farms filled with chickens, roosters, goats, and sheep, and we had a bunch of cats and dogs. We had too many pets to count since we adopted many strays. They would run away for months, then find their way back home with their new pet spouses and litters of kittens and puppies. We welcomed them all. This life made me a pet lover.

Education & Career

After graduating from St. Joseph's High School in Hammonton, New Jersey in 1985, I moved to Washington, DC to attend the illustrious Howard University, better known as "The Mecca." What an amazing school with its rich heritage and diverse culture. When I visited Howard for the first time, I had never seen so many African Americans in one space. I saw students walking around playing the part of real professionals. The students at the top of the hill in the School of Business were wearing their business attire, and students in the valley from the College of Medicine looked like real doctors wearing their scrubs and white lab coats with stethoscopes that hung freely around their necks. It was clear that these students were serious about their education. I was beyond impressed.

Motherhood

I'm a mother of two teenagers, 16 and 18. Wow, teenagers? Where did the time go? Of all my work experiences, being a mom is my favorite job in the world that has yielded the most satisfaction in my life.

I have always been an advocate for my children, however, an eventful twist in life's events forced me into being drafted as a super advocate on their behalf. I abruptly took on the position as a special needs advocate, investigator, anti-bullying advocate, therapist, and so on. You name it I was it.

I always dreamed of becoming a stay-at-home mom, but my mother always tells me to be careful what I pray for, I just might get it.
